Dragon - Movie review

Today only watched the movie and wanted to post the review right away illaati saami kutham aaidum. When the trailer of this movie was launched, like several like minded people i had cursed it to the extent possible, especially the way at which the hero proudly proclaims he has 48 arrears!! On top of that he gets to romance two good looking heroine, smoking like no tomorrow and of course the mandatory liquor drinking scenes, all coupled together to form such a cringe opinion about the movie that it was hate at first sight (or view in YouTube terminology). If i keep repeating the same flaws that have become common place across all the movies, i felt like repeating myself and had stopped posting about movies for a while. But after seeing several positive reviews about this one, was really curious to test the extent of rot that had set in the minds of people, that they were praising such a rotten to the core movie.

I was happily wrong. In fact, the movie preaches exactly what i wanted to see in present day story setting and glad that the movie has become the biggest blockbuster of this year so far. It reaffirms the belief that while negative things and bawdy beaviours have their rule, positivity still can find its feet amidst all the ruckus. The other good thing about this movie is, it couldn't be more 2025ish in its way of story telling. The hero does all things and more that are shown as trendy in every other movie. He bunks classes, fights and behaves unruly with his professors all for the silly reason that his first love rejected him for being a top student in school!!! He even ditches college to while away his time at his friend's apartment while they dutifully pay for all his expenses and bear with his shenanigans like true blood movie buddies. One fine day he hears that his college lover, his ex, is getting married to a guy who earns one lakh per month and vows to earn at least one rupee more than him. He arranges every crooked way possible and produces fake certificates, cheats his way into an IT firm. Like typical movie hero, he manages to over power Python programming over night and becomes the employee of the year for three straight years, winning one promotion after another, eventually landing up with a plum onsite assignment. He even bags the best looking girl (latest talk of the town) as his fiancée and when all seems to be moving too well too fast, fate intervenes in the form of his college principal, who corners him into a situation where in he has no other option but to clear all his arrears within the next three months to safeguard his present way of life. To sum up his ire, his ex girlfriend turns up as the professor at the very college and with her help he manages to clear up almost all his pending papers. The final twist is cinematic at best but serves a positive reminder that you may not enjoy the short cuts to glory if you are true to your heart. I loved the scene where his father stands up for him and reaffirms his belief on the goodness of his son. Truly tear jerking moment. George Maryan as the father stands much taller than his actual height with his performance. He seems to be making a habit of stealing the scene from right under the noses of his co actors. Be it Madarasapattinam english teacher or the bumbling constable in Kalakalappu or the mass hero constable (even if its for few minutes) in kaithi or in this movie, he relishes every role that comes his way.

Pradeep Ranganathan, the hero is a mishmash of Dhanush + SJ Surya + Sivakarthikeyan in whichever scene that reminds you of them. His hair style, his mannerisms, his way of over the top acting, makes one cringe and feels like the kid who will get slapped at the dropped of the hat by your angry PT master for misbehavior during your school days. He does more than a decent job in this movie and literally carries the story forward. Kayadu Lohar (heroine) pathi solrathukaga thaan intha post nu sollati nejamavay saami kutham aaidum. Every other reel or meme on this movie is about this girl and may soon rule telugu industry if not already!! Myskin as the college principal does what Prakash Raj would've sleep walked in his prime. The friend characters of the hero, if possible, can be erased with rubber from the script the better. Ivanunga mathiri aalungalala thaan oorla irukara onnu rendu nallavanum kedaranunga. "Vazhithunaiye" song proves yet again that Sid Sriram can speak five languages in telugu. He is one singer who is capable of singing any and every song in only one tune and still make a hit out of it!!!

The transformation of D.Ragavan into Dragon may be common place but the fact that the movie wins for his transformation back into Ragavan from Dragon his heartwarming!

Excellent review, even by your high standards. Even an ignoramus like me could visualise the movie.

Of all the things I have heard heroes do miraculously, mastering Python overnight surely has to take the cake ! Intrigued by the good lady's name - Kayadu Lohar ??!!! And D Raghavan to Dragon had me smiling broadly.

I hope you watched the movie in Kamadhenu theatre (please no multiplexes and definitely no no to OTT). Yes, I know Kamadhenu is long closed, but something like that should surely have survived.

Seasons under sun...

Got this as a forward. Made interesting reading and made lot of sense too :) check it out. Just two years after our marriage, hubby brought up the idea of asking mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. Hubby's father passed away while he was still very young. Mother endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him, see him through to a university degree. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today. I immediately agreed and started packing the spare room, which has a balcony facing the South to let her enjoy the sunshine and plant greenery. Hubby stood in the bright room, and suddenly just picked me up and started spinning round and round. As I begged him to put me down, he said: "Lets go fetch mother." Hubby is tall and big sized and I love to rest on his chest and enjoy the feeling that he could pick me up at any moment put the...

Best romantic dialogues..EVER

Love and Freedom of expression in times of Sena wud've been apt title for this post :) Thought i would watch MNIK and post its review to show my protest. Since i couldn't i settled for watching re-runs of the usual mushy movies which they show year after year in Star and HBO. I was waiting for Nottinghill, Harry met sally, Autumn in NY, Sweet November, You've got mail and Pretty woman. Surprisingly except for the last one, none of the other movies featured in any of the channels!!! Maybe the channel guys themselves got bored :D Anyways..these movies have become part and parcel of my movie watching gene that i've mugged up most of their dialogues by now :D Here are some for you to cherish and enjoy. Without googling..let me see how many of these you can identify and how many more you could add :) " I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out, I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich, I love that you get a little crinkle above your no...
