Variety is the spice of life

"You are usually the top rank student in your class right? Always getting first mark?” Typically this query would’ve raised more reactions on me than Jothika. I was never posed this query during my school days and definitely didn’t expect this from my manager in present day situation!! As the tortoise coil swirls back, the flashback of the query, was from the possible set of events that lead to it. One thing that always accompanies me, wherever I go is, the “angry” tag. Be it a company that I’ve worked for several years or few months, somehow they always tag me at the least as a “strict” person and in other case scenario an angry person. In fact, within span of 6 months, I got a comment from some guy with whom I had rarely interacted and who had in fact joined couple of months after me!! Last few weeks have been nothing short of nightmare with Junior falling sick. It’s heart breaking to see him suffer and with literally zero food intake he has grown unrecognizably thin. As your kid grows, it presents many dimensional situations for the parent and for people like me, who have always been the Siddhartha for their parents, when it’s time to get into the real world, not everyone is capable of turning into a Buddha. Starting with chasing around references and recommendations for school admissions, there are several eye-popping-opener scenarios which I never thought my parents had to undergo, at all!!! Except for the one time when my mom was adamant that I have to get into CBSE and start speaking English like other kids, it was never a case of opting for recommendations from higher-up’s or influencers. There are lot of assumptions made on this post. The primary of them all being that, people who work in IT companies, the so called software engineers, are well educated. If not want to stress on the “well” part, at least should give some concession on the “educated” portion of it. Then again, the very definition of educated will raise some controversial topic, that will digress the intent of the post. Back to the topic. Whichever office I have been to, without any exception, every single one of their cafeteria, food courts and pantries will have certain signs, carrying the biggest font available, plastered on every vantage point leading to and on the corridors leading to the hand wash. The message is albeit a simple one – “PLEASE DONOT WASH YOUR LUNCH BOXES HERE”. In some places, I’ve even seen such messages plastered on the gap between the mirrors in hand wash.
