Of languages and learnings

Junior somehow has a repulsion for writing any other language than English. And the sad part is, he doesn’t like to read or watch tamil stories. Even he doesn’t understand a bit, he watches stories on every language under the sun but not tamil. To satisfy our cribbing, he will keep them for couple of minutes and the moment we turn our head, it would’ve become either English or hindi or even Russian for that matter. Since his school started with tamil as second language from this year, we wanted him to practice writing tamil alphabets. His mom started with coaxing and finally the she-hulk had to come out to make him sit for the writing practice.

“Naama inniki tamil alphabets practice pananum. Be ready I will come in 2 mins”

Junior dutifully took his slate and chalk out and started writing. I was actually shocked and impressed at the same time, watching this from a distance. Never realized that he already knew how to write in tamil.

Just to be sure I asked,

“Ennada ezhuthitruka”

“Amma thaana sonna..aana aavana ezhutha..adhaan ezhuthitruken”

“Wow..super…show me”

“Iru..first amma kitta thaan kaaatuven…” and started calling out for her

It looked as if he wrote only for few seconds and I was wondering how come he wrote all the alphabets in short notice. Even for the tried and tested English alphabets, it usually takes about 10 minutes. I was making mental calculation as to how many tamil alphabets he would’ve written in such short span.

“Ammmmaaaa.” Again the bellowing began.

Finally mommy dearest came from kitchen and threw me an angry look

“ingeye thaana ukkanthitrukeenga..paaka koodatha…”

I was like “un pullayaandanaiye kelu” nu silently looked into phone.

Suddenly she started laughing loudly.

“Enna panni vachirukaan paarunga”

“En..aana avanna ezhuthaliaya..appovay nenachen..ennada takkunu ezhuthitaanay nu..show me”

I was shocked beyond belief on seeing what was written.

The slate had the words “Ana Awana” written on it in English!!!!

Ha Ha Ha.

Children are like this. Thjey'll rebel when you force them to write or read something they don't want to. But tastes change rapidly. When the teacher tells them, they will dutifully do it. For all you know, in the next three months, he'll write Tamil alphabets easily, but refuse to do something else.Children are wonderfully unpredictable.

By the way, I hope you have hidden the broom in your house. She hulk ?? :):)

Seasons under sun...

Got this as a forward. Made interesting reading and made lot of sense too :) check it out. Just two years after our marriage, hubby brought up the idea of asking mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. Hubby's father passed away while he was still very young. Mother endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him, see him through to a university degree. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today. I immediately agreed and started packing the spare room, which has a balcony facing the South to let her enjoy the sunshine and plant greenery. Hubby stood in the bright room, and suddenly just picked me up and started spinning round and round. As I begged him to put me down, he said: "Lets go fetch mother." Hubby is tall and big sized and I love to rest on his chest and enjoy the feeling that he could pick me up at any moment put the...

After seeing "Fight Club"..my first reaction was ..."huh, What a movie??!@#$%". A little later i was wondering whats that movie was actually about. One meek guy..tired of his boring life, which is so boring that he cant even sleep, meets an interesting character who shows him a new world of thrills and action. And lo behold..arises a new mighty meek. That same fateful night of the meeting, the meek's house blows up. He is left stranded on the streets. He calls up his new friend and meets him on a bar. After a couple of drinks, the new friend invites him to his house but on a condition that they should have a fight before that. A bloody fisty and feisty fight ensues after which the meek settles with the new guy in his house. Many onlookers who witness the fight get enthralled with the idea of the fight and soon an underground club of fighters is formed - The Fight club. Rule no. 1 of fight club, You shouldn't discuss about it to anyone. Rule no.2 of fight clu...
