Manifest – drama series

What will happen when the forgotten past suddenly starts from where it was last met? What will happen when people from our past who were presume or really dead comes back into our lives from the very moment when they went missing, while our lives have moved on? How does a plane carrying close to 200 people vanish in thin air for over 5 and a half years only to resurface without a scratch all of a sudden? Is it rebirth/resurrection or did it enter any wormhole/dead zone where time stopped still? What is the basis behind all those callings and sudden hallucinating visuals that the passengers feel and how is it all connected to one another? Why some of them die again after a period of time like how they met their end previously while some continue to get multiple lives? What is the significance of the number 828 in all this?

Questions. Questions and some more of them is what you get after 2 and a half seasons of watching this drama series. It is riveting as a premise with borderline supernatural, hinting at a possible scientific explanation, going hay wire with connections to Egyptian mythology in the middle and god only knows where the story is heading. Season one was jaw dropping good with melodrama of reality getting mixed with all those surprise elements giving this series a freshness never seen before others from similar genre. The situations encountered by the family of those passengers presumed dead for almost 6 years is as real as it gets, with spouses having moved on to different partners, engagements being broken by wedlock with other people, grieving parents unable to cope up with the return of missing children, twin siblings unable to relate to each other with the age gap between them, the variety of characters that get introduced is quite interesting and makes it a compelling watch. But having an episode dedicated to each of the passengers gets tedious beyond a while and the duration of 40 plus minutes per episode doesn’t help either with all those melodrama. Usually for a super duper series, it’s the second season and possibly the third that are expected to be the best of the lot, with the popularity stabilizing at season 4 and towards eventual decline. This series seems to run out of gas in second season itself. The ongoing third season keeps pushing the boundaries of a scientific possibility and believable explanation to all these events and the seriously heavy duty content, episode after episode, is only self-hyping the series. Wish it gets a finale it deserves and hope the studio doesn’t kill it mid way.

Rudhra Veenai

Took binge watching to a whole new level and completed Rudhra Veenai series in a week's time :) The best part of the lot being, i didnt see the last episode to know the ending, despite the craving urge right from midway onto the series. Yay to that :)  The story by Indira Soundrarajan, made into drama series by Radaan have been on my radar for few years now and thanks to my blog mate and good friend Brags, managed to get hold of the series. For long my complaint against tamil series is that they are in no league to match the thrill element of the english drama series. There are some handful of good comedy series like Flight 171, Ramany vs Ramany but none to match a good suspense thriller till i stumbled on the Marmadesam series. Read in some survey that they've been voted as the best ever tamil series of the 90's. Not sure on the authenticity, but they would definitely worth any such accolades. Marmadesam series where way too ahead of their time for any drama series is my...
