Of stories and tales

Junior has been given a holiday assignment in school – to write a small story of their own. Ever since he could understand, he has been fascinated by Ganesha, especially the story of his birth. He has literally read and re-read that Amar Chitra katha book into shreds. I believe his own devotion level love for his mother stems from the story!! When he talked about the assignment, I gave him suggestions to come up with a mokka story about dinosaurs or the “megabaratha” play of us. He had already made up his mind on the topic. They were to write a 2-page story in their 3 lined notebook. Junior sat and wrote an 8 pager in under half hour and showed it to us for proof correction. Except for few spellings, we didn’t touch the story at all. I’ve posted the same verbatim as presented by Junior.  Possibly the one post am super proud of amongst the 1296 posted in this space 😊 😊 😊

Ganesha’s birth – Authored by Junior

When Parvati was going to bath she had told nandi to not let any of shiva gana’s come in. Nandi started to guard the door. When shiva was walking towards the door nandi was in doubt. Then shiva went in. Parvati was so furious that nandi did let shiva in. She thought that any of her gana’s wont work. So she made one boy with her turmeric powder. then Parvati blessed boy and the boy came to life. Parvati named him as ganesh. She gave him a stick. Now she said Ganesh you must guard the door. Ganesh did as what his mother has been told. When shiva was walking towards the door Ganesh said stop. My mother has told me that I should not let anyone in. as he spoke Shiva was so angry that he cut of his head. when the boy screamed aaah Parvati came out. Then Shiva realized that the boy was Parvati’s son. Shiva felt like the boy was his son too. Parvati told her husband in anger. Shiva running in forest he saw a baby elephant. Shiva threw his trishul at the baby elephant and brought the head back to his home and placed it on the boy. Ganesh came to life as was in a deep sleep waken up. From now he will be worshipped as God. Thus ended the story of Ganesha’s birth. The end. (Small Ganapathi’s picture).

This is wonderful. For a child to so cogently tell a story is very very special.

Proud parents you should be. Well done Junior.

Yes, it should take pride of place in this blog.

The Great gamblers

Algorithm of an arranged marriage: 1) Check the foto if like it goto step 2 2) Check the horoscope if it matches goto step 3 3) Visit the gals/guys house for free snack session and have an officially sponsored violation of privacy with the sort of questions that would've made you beet red in anger had the situation been anything otherwise. 4) If step 3 finishes satisfactorily..get the 2 bakras married!!! There are many people around who dont believe in placing bets or who consider gambling as an evil. But still they have no qualms in going in for an arranged marriage. It still beats me..how can one judge a person with just a few minute talk and above all get CONVINCED that he/she is going to be his life partner??!!! Even to select a team mate we have 4 rounds of interview!!! Before you guys jump on me..let me hide behind the disclaimer. I've absolutely no issues with this concept which has worked well for my parents..their parents..relatives...and majority of people i knew and ...

Seasons under sun...

Got this as a forward. Made interesting reading and made lot of sense too :) check it out. Just two years after our marriage, hubby brought up the idea of asking mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. Hubby's father passed away while he was still very young. Mother endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him, see him through to a university degree. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today. I immediately agreed and started packing the spare room, which has a balcony facing the South to let her enjoy the sunshine and plant greenery. Hubby stood in the bright room, and suddenly just picked me up and started spinning round and round. As I begged him to put me down, he said: "Lets go fetch mother." Hubby is tall and big sized and I love to rest on his chest and enjoy the feeling that he could pick me up at any moment put the...
