Inception - Sell me your dreams...

Atlast i managed to see the movie :) It was almost as if i was not destined to see it last year. I badly wanted to see it in theaters and tried so many times to get a ticket. But somehow or other the opportunity slipped away. And when i bought the DVD, my friend(grrrrr) took it away and it was with him for 3 4 weeks before i could finally lay my hands on it. By this time, i had got a fair idea of what the movie was all about and was sort of mentally prepared :) I sound as if i had prepared for a battle..still :) the hype that surrounded the movie and the reviews i read had raised my expectations for it..glad to say it didnt disappoint one bit.

Kudos to the director who is also the writer for conceiving such a complex idea and yet presenting it as simple as it deserves to be. I wont say its a movie which you can enjoy munching over a popcorn. You might rather forget the popcorn while watching it if you get hooked into it. There are so many incidents happening per frame that, even if you miss a scene or a dialog here and there, it might throw you off course. That i feel, might be a dampener in an otherwise excellent story. Way too many things have been packed towards the end. And the last few scenes leaves a lot many things for the viewer to make their own assumptions. That it could have multiple endings in itself is a triumph for the writer/director.

Now for the story :) What does a tired body do to relax? if the answer is sleep..well the movie just makes sleeping scarier. Especially if you are a hotshot guy with so much riding on your decisions. The hero(or should i say the lead character? there are so many gray shades to this character that its almost villainous, but for DiCaprio's performance) enters into peoples dreams and steals the innermost secrets of the victims. He even goes one step better and implants his thoughts on others. He takes up such an assignment and whether he succeeds in that or not forms the story. In the process, he has his own demons in mind to fight against. A word on the visual effects- STUNNING. The camera works as the eye of the director and captures his mind in visuals.

Everyone who sleeps has dreams. And at times the dreams are so realistic that its hard to believe whether we are awake or asleep. The director takes this crux and has woven an absolute delight of a tale around it. Just like how we pinch to bring ourselves to reality there is a totem concept in the movie. There is nothing much to describe the movie. You've to see it to believe it. Its not a movie you can enjoy with a wavering mind. For its a movie about the wavering mind. Mysterious are the power of human mind and that is brought out in all its glory in the movie. I always felt memories are cannibalistic in nature. They feed over themselves and get erased if we not care for them. The movie creates a scare for the security of the secrets one has locked in the dark confines of their mind.

Gils verdict: Deception never sounded so sexy and sleep so scary. Awesome movie. If it doesnt win this year's screenplay oscar..i would feel more disappointed than the director himself.

Mmmm. Such a strong recommendation by Gils deserves to be taken up. But what is a movie if it can't be enjoyed with popcorn ????
