of ads and Jingles
Like tax and death, if there is one another thing that is unavoidable that would be ads!! Even if you opt for ad free subscription, they will always find a way to seep into your eyeline!! I always used to wonder how they decide on the duration of the ads for some of them would go on for almost half a minute will some may be just 5 seconds! But even for a 5 second ad, the amount of effort that might go behind in making wouldn't be any less than a movie shoot i guess, for you need to pick the right crew, cast, script, artwork, camera and above all music, which i believe plays an all important role in ads, even more than how it used to be for movies. Airtel became a household brand as much as by its product as much as by ARR's theme song. Same goes for Titan, Washing powder Nirma, Green clad glam gal bathing under a waterfall fame Liril soap, and the simplest yet cutest Pug dog fame Hutch - which launched the dog as much as the service provider and several other ads which have their own space in the nostalgic nodes of our memories. One such ad might probably be making its way into that sacred space, but it doesn't just have to battle against ad blocks and remotes, but also the irritant regularity with which ads creep up, breaking into the entertainment space.
I would've never noticed this ad, despite it popping every 5 minutes across almost every channel that i watch and even after noting it, the name of the product took a while to register. I often confused it to Swiggy, Snippy and the name Spinny really took some effort to remember. The other factor that went in its favor obviously being Sachin. When i was watching some movie on mute, as goes most of my movie watching, Sachin popped in the ad, coolly sitting on a lawn/patio chair in road side, next to his car, with rolled up sleeves and a loosely worn tie, drinking something, looking somewhere. The ad finishes with the words "god" and "promise" placed strategically on either side of his face. It appears in a sequence with "god" appearing on left side of his face and then "promise" on the right side. That was clever placement and sequencing at best and for a 10 sec ad, it was definitely catchy. The very first time i "heard" the ad, that became an additional wow factor. With tingling guitar score accompanied by a chorus sounding vocal, it felt like a better version of your favorite song. Unfortunately the lyrics were hard to follow except for "alaipaayuthay" and it took a while to google. But when i began searching for the Spinny ad song, could see so many others having already done the same and in the You tube video, many had posted the same thought process. In fact, the original song video was quite well made as well. Amrit Ramnath's "Kaadhal Alaipaayuthey" seems to be having a fan base of its own and deserves much wider reach as mentioned in the video comments section itself. Been a while since a good humming strumming song came and this one is pretty decent.
