Pelli chupulu – movie review

Off late I’ve been watching way too many movies across multiple languages. Almost a couple of them a day. The biggest plus of OTT being, getting to watch other language movies that I would’nt have ever tried before. Have been hearing about this movie for a while and with Vijay Devarakonda’s career hitting all time high with his recent releases and this one having already won national awards, wanted to check it, but was awaiting a version with sub titles. Finally managed to land upon one and boy, was it a sweet surprise.

The movie was fresh from first reel itself and even though I couldn’t put a finger on it, there was something refreshing and relatable about it from the very beginning. The ease with which the character introduction happens and the setting is established, shows the knack of the director and wiki told that he was already a past master in making short films. It was evident with the speed with which he introduces the story along with the characters and on the minimalistic approach. As the title goes, which apparently means match making, the lead pair meets at the heroine’s house as part of match making. The room where they meet has a faulty door and they get locked in along with a kid. They talk to each other about their back stories and bit of past. With neither of them interested in the proposal, it only makes it a comical twist when the door finally opens to only be told that the heroes family have came to the wrong house by goofed up address. There is an interesting link in their stories, when the heroine happened to be the first person to have tasted the heroes recipe at a restaurant where he was casually trying a dish. It sets the tone for their partnership, where the ambitious heroine wants to run a business of food truck, with the hero dreaming of becoming a chef. The very first order gets royally messed up by the wayward hero and at the risk of the partnership getting snipped in the bud, they both realize each other’s strengths. The rest of the story follows the usual thread of success followed by untold love, culminating in wedding proposals getting broken at the right time for both of them to reunite.

Vijay Devarakonda is so naturally believable as the lazy wastrel that it could’ve been his biopic!! The heroine lady always has a strict teacher face and it serves her character well. To me the show stealer was the useless friend who comes up with such a natural performance and deadpans his jokes, which cracks one up even via subtitles!! Especially towards the end when he is asked what is he doing for living, his response is super awesome. Planning to use it for my own purpose :)

In the end credits it is shown as real life story inspired. And interestingly this movie has won a national award as well. The story is very desi and treatment is even more native. We’ve tonnes and tonnes of stories abound us that are sure shot crowd pleasers and even if told before, can always make one smile when retold. Pelli chupulu is one such effort. Do watch it.

Enna koduma saaar ithu!!!!

We are a group of 5 who share our apartment. Usually me and one more guy are the last to the leave the house everyday morning. Yesterday, the one who used to leave first for office, didnt come home till 11. I went to sleep after the usual book reading session at around 11.30. When i woke up i saw it was only me who was still lying on the mat while even the guy who leaves for office along with me, had already started folding his bed!! I was feeling very tired and sleepy and was in two minds whether i should take off or go late. Still managed to crawl..brushed teeth half sleeping and swtiched on the geyser. I turned back to see, suddenly it was pitch dark outside the bathroom!! Since the light was On inside, it wasnt power cut and i came out to see what was wrong. The guy who folded his bed, had moved to the hall and was again asleep!! Then only i noticed, it was dark outside the balcony too!!! I checked the time. It was 3AM!!! BOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! SOB SOB SOB!!! That useless guy afterwards ...
