Welcome 2019

2019 never felt like a “new” year. May be 2018 was so exhaustive and felt forever to extend or was it because people started wishing “happy new year” from Christmas itself, whichever was the reason, somehow, thought will never see the end of last year. Moreover, the last week of last year saw us clinic hopping with one after the other falling sick, didn’t make it any easier. There were lot of heartburn and near misses that made 2018 an year of regrets. But in hindsight they all turned out to be for good. Hope the right thing, which is much delayed materializes this year.

Latest addition to the list of favorite videos, courtesy Junior – Oddbods. Bubbles,Fuse,Newt,Jeff,Pogo,Slick and Zee are collectively called as “Oddbods” – are  the latest craze of junior. He has a knack for picking awesome videos, be it songs or cartoons. And whether he follows them or not, after a while, all those videos become family favorites. Be it ChuChu TV or now the current Oddbods, the videos are awesome and anyone can enjoy them. Kudos to the creative team of Oddbods and special mention to those who are doing the graphics. It’s hilarious and really funny and very much addictive. The storylines are not more than ten minutes and each of them are amazingly scripted and edited. Junior has become such a big fan of them at, he has begun to imitate them. To others it might look “odd” but we knew which is the one of the seven toons, he is mocking up and its really funny.

One day when I took him to a shopping mall, I risked taking him to the toys section. He wanted a toy train and whichever model that the floor assistant showed where not to his satisfaction. After a while that guy moved on to other customers. Feeling bad for not getting him any toy, I tried suggesting construction trucks and other automobile related toys. But he was very specific. If it’s not a green colored train, he didn’t want anything else!!! On the way home, there was a platform toy shop where he saw his green colored train and immediately picked it up. Same for his dress materials. His color combination would put Nippon paints to shame. Wonder when I would start rephrasing being specific to extremely adamant!!

Wishing thala Ramesh, adhivasi madam,  Vince madam and other readers of this space a lovable 2019.

2019 wishes straight back to you.

God, I don't recognise a single of the videos that you say the young man adores.

Can I have a bright red Ferrari 488 spider please. If you take me to Maranello, the home of Ferrari, we can get the exact one I want :):)

Happy new year to you and family Gilsu

Every time you write about your junior I get nostalgic about my own. How time flies and how distant these little kiddos grow up to be.

Hold on to every precious moment with your toddler, enjoy and cherish it.

Love to your Junior.

Harlan Coben and Netflix

When my friend had posted a review about one of the series “Stay close” I started watching it and lost interest within couple of minutes. Somehow the British way of story telling is difficult to relate for me as I find it way too slow or erratically paced. Accent can be addressed by subtitles and familiarity with faces will get adjusted as the scenes go by, but they do lack that hook to capture the audience from first scene in most of the creations is my humble opinion. After reading a bit about the author Harlan Coben, I decided to give that series a try and ploughed on, hop-skipping and jumping across many scenes. In the end, it wasn’t that bad as I had perceived with the final episode having so many twists than a coir rope. The entire series of 8 odd episodes happen in past and present mode, where the events of one night that happened decades ago, comes back to haunt the characters involved in present day world. It is almost as if, the past casting its shadow on present, making the ...

Engeyum Eppothum - Review

Sometimes...amidst all the magnificent fireworks which light up the night sky, a simple candle steals the heart. It not just serves the purpose of giving useful light, but also looks beautiful too. Engeyum Eppothum is one such movie. Right from first frame the movie oozes with freshness and a serene calmness only to be shattered by a saddening climax. Anjali and Jai form such a lovely pairing that whenever they come onscreen it makes you smile unconsciously. After Kani (Angadi Theru) Anjali scores again as Manimegalai in this movie. A dominating yet subdued lady lead, a first for our kind of cinema i guess. Jai plays the innocent villager role to the T and all his scenes are a laugh riot. Loved the exchanges between him and Anjali. Especially the scene where she asks him to meet one police constable. After the meeting she asks him does he knows who that police constable was. He innocently replies "if he is a constable for me, will he be D.I.G for you". Believe me, the instan...
