Fanboy politics

Ever since MGR became the CM of this state, every actor with a 3 word initial or name aspires to covet the seat. Make some hit movies with good songs and entertainment, the moment it becomes a repeat or near repeat at the box office, start an organization and slowly branch it out into politics converting it into a political outfit, seems to be the straight forward and somewhat tried and trusted approach when it comes to TN politics, with movie and politics being 2 sides of the same coin. Either the politicians approach movie people for their support or the movie guys themselves start their own bandwagon!! The main issue with this setup being, the very purpose and intent behind such organizations and how blatantly misguided they are and how openly greedy and corrupt they are, right from their moment of formation. Even while being just a fan club, their intention is to promote their hero, boost their salary by boasting/hyping unreal numbers and above all tarnishing other actors and fighting with their fans. having been brought up in such a negative environment, their aspirations are nothing but pure greed and lust for power to get something for themselves, having supported and carried their hero to the throne. It is not public service but self service which drives them towards the most powerful setup in the state and no actor or party or outfit is exemption to this dictum. It doesn't mean, "original" political parties as claimed by them are all saints and have only service in their minds. If at all anything, history is nothing but a wheel in motion with the same setup repeating after half a century. Probably if blog had been there at that time, a similar thought might've been voiced by my dad when MGR came to power. One good thing being new people, raw and devoid of having tasted power, from all walks of life, having been put in the hot seat, is an opportunity for them to do good, but mostly it happens for self and rarely for public.

In my school days, having a hairstyle similar to Rajini was called "porukki" rouge-ish. Families admonished their kids for having a center parted hair style and it was an immediate and visible sign that the kid is not a "rebel" but more of a wastrel. Whomever managed to survive such strict setup, despite retaining their "style" secretly, would've had a similar culture shock, seeing their kids, tying anythig from electric wire to cycle chain on their hands and having eye brow piercing to all kinds of gothic setup, aping their favorite hero Simbu, whose sole claim to fame being how disrespectful he is to his elders and taking the roughish appeal to a much higher level. To see the crowd going ga-ga when he appears on screen makes me wonder if it is just mob mentality or has such tribes grown exponentially!! Such is the strength of success that, more an antic draws a crowd, much the level of decency goes down by the next "successor" who makes sure his antics are even more cringe worthy. When all such crowds accumalte and exercise their civil rights, despite being the most uncivil, the democrazy setup which we live with, paves way for the majority to the throne. Unless we soon have some basic criteria to offices of esteem, we may soon be see neanderthals ruling the roost, if not already!!
