The book review that wasn't!!!

One liner to begin a book review - Read the book wrapper! Second liner to continue - book padikarapo wrapper cover OZHUNGA padikavum (self note) at least author perai muzhusaga padikavum!!! After reading " The Widow" as a Jeffrey Archer novel and sharing a post about it as a Jeffrey Archer novel, i wanted to pick a different book by Archer to see if it was "any better" than "The Widow". En nalla neram, John Grisham en bloglaam padikrathilla. Or atleast any of his millions of followers. Illati court case aagi asingapatruka vendi irukum. Avvvv...oray the puppy shame moment. How i ended up finding this is a thing in itself. When i was checking for the chronology of publication to "evaluate" (mmkum) if Archer wrote "The widow" before or a...

Blot on the city

Very rarely does the events around me bother me to this extent. But this particular nuisance has been a thorn on my conscious since my college days – the curious case of Presidency/Pachaiyappa colleges. I was offered a good course for my UG in Presidency and even though everyone were dead against me joining the college for its bad reputation, I thought as long as I can manage my studies and stay away from the trouble elements, I should be able to manage and more over didn’t had any other choice. The first 5 days of the semester showed the challenges up ahead in crystal clear format. The very first day, first class, while Maths professor was writing down the syllabus for that sem, some guy came and announced that students have to participate in strike against existing fee structure and requested the professor to co-operate. The professor, came with us all the way till bus stand and warned us not to venture into the beach for he told that seniors are ragging juniors. I was confused and s...

To B.E or not B.E

"Do you understand physics jokes?" A rather innocuous sentence or question. But the situation in context was hilarious or sad, depends on which side of the conversation you were. A friend of mine, your typical America mappillai, recently had a skype chat with his possible bride-to-be. Ponnu paakrangaratha epdi solrathu? hunting sonna sandaiku varanga. Anyways. While discussing about their respective profiles, that girl suddenly had popped the question. Though he had heard the question, he was kind of confused as to if he heard it right and had it reconfirmed. While deliberating over the question, it was explained to him that, since he was from art and science background and not an engineer, that girl had wondered out loud, would he be able to appreciate nerdy jokes like science jokes. Needless to say on the status of the discussion. He polambified to me and was funny cursing the day he chose not to take up engineering and settled for B.Sc. Though we had a hearty laugh at ...

Circa education

How many planets are there in the solar system? Who invented aeroplane? Who invented electric bulb? Who is known as the father of electricity? Who invented telephone? Still, coming back to those questions. These would be the basic GK questions, ever since time immemorial and probably all kinds of school syllabus will have some or other chapter dedicated to each of them. The problem now is, what would be the correct answer for these questions?!!! Should it be a 9 planet solar system or 8, considering that pluto has been knocked off!! Thottathu thulangum..Vachathu velangum varusham

A continuous loosing streak - it has been the trend ever since this year started. It all began with the table tennis tournament. Athepdi thedi pudichi enakkunu maatuthu therila..i was paired against last year's winner on the very first round itself. The moment he saw me, his reaction was like a wolf slurping at the sight of lamb. He played with utmost leisure and literally walked through me. Seri..etho mudinja varaikum fight panna try pannomnu naanum vituten. Then it was the carrom tourney. First round, first strike. Hands were shaking as if there was an earthquake running inside me. Managed to clear it and in second round was one strike away from winning when my last coin, red and follow, both fell into the pocket along with the striker. And as per the rules the opponent won :( Onnu oru coinum vizhaathu ilaati mothama ipdi athanaiyum uzhuthaynu pheelingsoda came out.  Quizla innum kodumai. Crossroads

Life pathi polambara post is never quite complete or doesnt quite begin without a thathuva quote on life itself :) So here goes nothing. Life is never a long winding straight road. Its always filled with crossroads and junctions and even if we want to go straight, there would be diversions or road blocks which would alter our course. At times willingly and many times unwillingly. The route may or may not be the one we would want or like initially. But almost always take you to where you want to go. Might sound like a lost man's riddle. But that's how my life has been all these years. At times, i consciously cut away from my comfort zones and try out something different just for the heck of it. But many a times, a sudden rapid or fall throws me off balance and by the time i steady the ship, the course is altered beyond return. Adapting to such sudden developments being the only hope have almost always been on the look out for incidents like that sound the bugle before. But God...

Styleu Styleuthaan..

"Ennada hair style ithu...paanaiya kavuthu vitta mathiri..decenta irukka eppo thaan kathukka poriyoo" . It would've been an otherwise ordinary rant of Mom if not for the source behind it. Some one in temple had commented about my hairstyle (rather the lack of it) to her and that which had convinced her as the main reason behind my single status!!! Athepdi yengenthu yethai link panraanga therila!! End result, i was chased away from home with the warning that unless my hairstyle was at an acceptable level (which god only knows) i wouldnt be allowed inside. My sis too joined the bandwagon and sided with the enemies. She gave me her membership card for one local spa and booked an appointment for me. The D-day arrived. When i entered a chinese lady greeted me and gave me a catalogue which resembled the ones given at Pizaa Hut. Naama saloonuku thaan vanthirukoma ila saapdavaa nu lighta doubtoda opened it. I was not much wrong. Atleast on the price columns. Antha bookla ir...

"NO" esy thing to remember..

Sometime back i was in a situation. I could have delayed it and fixed it myself but since it was getting messier with each passing day i decided to take help and close it at the earliest. When in need, like everyone else, i've a select set of people who are my fallback options. Never for once i doubt their sincerity or their availability for me. Such is my loyalty to them i am sure same would be their feeling towards me. But on this particular incident..both the people whom i approached turned negative. Logically i could convince myself of the response..but emotionally it was a big blow. Their "NO" was heartbreaking. They were someone, who i consider a part of my life and to whom i approach to for any major decision in my life. Someone who know me better than most of the other folks. I had always taken them for granted to be available for me. That i realised was a major blunder and luckily for me that minor issue opened my eyes. Never for one moment i blame them or nor is...

Enna koduma saaar ithu!!!!

We are a group of 5 who share our apartment. Usually me and one more guy are the last to the leave the house everyday morning. Yesterday, the one who used to leave first for office, didnt come home till 11. I went to sleep after the usual book reading session at around 11.30. When i woke up i saw it was only me who was still lying on the mat while even the guy who leaves for office along with me, had already started folding his bed!! I was feeling very tired and sleepy and was in two minds whether i should take off or go late. Still managed to crawl..brushed teeth half sleeping and swtiched on the geyser. I turned back to see, suddenly it was pitch dark outside the bathroom!! Since the light was On inside, it wasnt power cut and i came out to see what was wrong. The guy who folded his bed, had moved to the hall and was again asleep!! Then only i noticed, it was dark outside the balcony too!!! I checked the time. It was 3AM!!! BOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! SOB SOB SOB!!! That useless guy afterwards ...
