The last hour – drama series review

The best part of this drama series lies in its setting and casting. North east has never ever been captured in this much detail ever before on a supposedly main stream story line. Be it their culture, their setup, daily lives and the mock teases of how they are perceived by “outsiders”, it all gives a sense of jubilation that finally someone has decided to take the plunge of integrating India’s North east into mainstream story line. It is definitely the most applaudable and commendable effort by the director, leaving aside the story telling aspect apart, as the effort is literally evident on screen. Whether by purpose or by design, the night scenes are literally pitch dark, probably a reflection of real life situation there. Road transport looks daunting and some cultural titbits that are shown in the episodes makes on wonder on the immense richness this nation has across its spread. For this reason alone, I would recommend to have this series achieve viral fame, so that others keep de

Carpe diem

The first time I heard about this phrase was as a code name for a project in one of my previous organization. I thought it was a French client and when I googled about them, realized it was more of a phrase. Took a really long while to remember the meaning and even longer time to understand. But the phrase got stuck in mind. It has a really nice ring to it. And as a concept, it never made more sense than at present, literally and figuratively. Every previously known walk of life has been thrown off its rails and no one is sure of what to expect. The question as to where you see yourself in 5 years’ time would probably be scorned at in any interviews for surviving the present day, escaping the pandemic is priority numero uno. The disease happens to have its origins definitely in communism (the fact that its rumoured to be from China is a mere happenstance), for it is a great leveller, knocking of super rich and super poor with equal vengeance, barring the degree of suffering. Manifest – drama series

What will happen when the forgotten past suddenly starts from where it was last met? What will happen when people from our past who were presume or really dead comes back into our lives from the very moment when they went missing, while our lives have moved on? How does a plane carrying close to 200 people vanish in thin air for over 5 and a half years only to resurface without a scratch all of a sudden? Is it rebirth/resurrection or did it enter any wormhole/dead zone where time stopped still? What is the basis behind all those callings and sudden hallucinating visuals that the passengers feel and how is it all connected to one another? Why some of them die again after a period of time like how they met their end previously while some continue to get multiple lives? What is the significance of the number 828 in all this?  Questions. Questions and some more of them is what you get after 2 and a half seasons of watching this drama series. It is riveting as a premise with borderline supe

F.R.I.E.N.D.S - ix

Of all the drama series that I’ve watched, “Friends” will always be my heart’s favorite. Like first love, since it was the first ever drama series that I binge watched, it lead me to explore a whole new world of entertainment, stretching across different genres that I would’ve never tried if not for this series. The impact left by this series has been quite deep rooting in the sense that, unknowingly it had left quite an impression on my lifestyle and psyche. Now that I realize, round neck full sleeved plain colored tee shirts worn by Ross and Joey had already became my favorites go to clothes. The pun quips by Chandler whenever he meets someone new or ends in awkward situations, which are never mutually exclusive, continues to be my way of speak. Thanks to Comedy central tv channel for keeping my link with the sitcom by rerunning the series several million times. Despite the season finale happening almost 17 years back, for a series that saw its pilot being premiered a whopping 27 ye

Reckoning time

The climax scene of Infinity way, where half of world population is lost in a blink, gets reminded time and again, looking at the daily scores of Covid fatality. Those countries who suffered the brunt of the first wave, were prudent in ensuring their healthcare setup got a proper overhaul to safe guard against the subsequent waves. India somehow managed to escape the first wave due to its lockdown measures and other stricter norms. But the election fever and other religious fervor along with hubris of already having won the battle made people complacent. The virus never went away and is unleashing its full fury on the healthcare setup, which is barely adequate on normal situation. Now the government is stuck in a catch-22 where-in they cannot enforce lockdown and loose the economy and at the same time cannot allow the present way to continue which will break down the already stretched health care setup. There is utter chaos on the minds of most of the people, even though ground realit

Death in the clouds by Agatha Christie – book review

The master is at it again and this time, the closed confines of the murder happens to be set way up in the sky. The difference between this storyline and her other masterpieces being, it is set as a continuous journey of discussions and chats between the suspects and alongside ongoing investigation by Poirot, providing more and more information, with each of them negating the other as a possible suspect. The story goes like this – there is a murder that happens on a plane carrying about a dozen folks with Poirot being one of them. There is a dead wasp, a poison curare and a puncture wound on the deceased, leading the suspicion of a blow pipe being in play as a murder weapon, which eventually is found out on the plane underneath the seat of Poirot. The victim being a shrewd moneylender, often resorting to blackmails to get her due back from her customers, was almost roaming with a target on her back for a while. No one notices anyone doing any mischief, leave alone pointing a blow pipe
