Younger - drama series review

An interesting premise which sounds illogical not just on paper but on every sense, despite which the series managed to survive seven seasons means, it sheerly on the strength of casting. 

The story is about a 40 year old woman, who fakes her profile as a 26 year old to get a job. What starts as a genuine attempt to make ends meet, by getting into a job, spirals into several situations, each of which almost results in her secret getting revealed, but manages to save herself just in the nick of time. By the final season, almost every one in her circle, one after another, gets to know about her secret and real age, but not surprisingly, keeps her secret and even supports her. Idha first seasonlaye panniruntha renday episodela kadha mudinjirukum is a different story. The casting, as i mentioned saves the story and makes it watchable. The lady who fakes herself as a millenial despite being couple of decades older, was actually in her 40's when the show began, so goes for rest of the cast members. There are several ageist jokes, with her own college going daughter laughing out loud as to how can her colleagues and friends be so dumb to think of her as so young. The lady who plays her boss is fantastic with her expressions being the delimiter between each scenes. The guy who plays the editor in chief is all professional and decent. The only known name to me in the whole lot being, Hillary Duff. She manages to carry the scenes on every frame she is in and brings in the kind of authenticity that makes the show believable. Be it her surprise, sadness and shock at realising the false identity of her friend, who turns out old enough to be her mom. The betrayals she undergo and how she manages to put her feet down when it matters, makes hers a well rounded character, but for the final season where it is muddled to say the least.

The rest of the cast are decent enough to carry their roles and makes the series watchable. There is a defining dialogue which sums up the premise of the series that it is the attitude and thought that makes one or keeps one younger and not the age, which is otherwise just a number. You might've heard of chick flicks but this one is a flock of hen (self thoo!!) for it is women who rule the roost (sic) and how they stick up for each other.
