Dhurandhar - movie review

Athepdi ithana pada review poatutu, India's second highest grossing ever movie pathi post podama irukarathu!! What the world watches i the also same gadikaaram. 

One word of caution for those who'ven't yet seen the movie. Better stay a few feet away from the screen - whichever it may be. If you are watching on mobile, even more caution is advised, for any moment, you may feel queasy and drop the phone. Chumma therikka vitrukanunga used to be a catchphrase to describe action movies. But in this movie, literally therikka vitrukanunga rather kotti vitrukanunga. Edhai kekareengala - bucket bucketa blood !! Dhurandhar a dhoorama darroda paaka vendiatha poachu!! After watching the movie, felt like taking a bath!! Avlo gore and torture genre movies like Saw, Wrong Turn may tip a hat for this one!!! 

Story wise, nothing new. It starts with Kandhahar plane hijack (and very beginning scene the way they are slicing the neck of someone and that sound...uvvaaaks!!) followed by typical kan ketta pin soorya namaskaram effort by Indian government to infiltrate enemy (read Pak) mafia gangs. That part was catchy, wherein, rather than infiltrating their army (like how they've shown in million movies before) this time they choose their mafia and the reasoning is interesting as well. The hero, lands in Layri with head full of hair rivalling Rapunzel!! Thalai theichu kulichay biceps ethi irupan pola!!! He is all bulked up. Within few minutes he is attacked by local rowdies and before you know it, he enters into the main mafia gang as one of their fast track reliable gang member. Akshaye khanna, for his thin frame, tries to walk as if he forgot to remove the hangar while wearing his kurta!! Scarecrow pola kai vachitu suthina, despite looking like bleached older version of Dhanush, frame wise, konjam getha irukumnu solirupanga pola. Epo paru rendu kailayum bucket thookitu sutharapolavay walking!!! That dance which has become so viral comes for only a couple of seconds. Oru padathula vivek will be kalaaiching "vaala meenu velaangu meenu" song, which became a viral sensation then, for no reason!! Idhula apdi ennada iruku ivlo per virala suthitrukanunganu felt. But since it was already viral, true to mob mentality, i acknowledge that i liked that step which was initially made famous by the bhootham characters from Baathala bairavi movie. After couple of bomb blasts, gun fights and god father like killings the heroine is introduced. There were quite a lot of criticism for having Sara as the lady lead with the actual age difference being the lead pair running into couple of decades. Rajini Kamal padamelam paakara naama age difference between lead pairlaam pesalama nu oru self thoo madantory for all those naysayers. But storywise i can guess whey they went for such an obviously odd pairing. After couple more bomb blasts and gun fights, this time for real involving Mumbai attacks and Delhi parliment attacks, those scenes to be hones were quite hard hitting and emotionals. It goes on to show how different people up North and West feel and look at our non-sensical neighbour as compared to arm chair arivaalis down South. Patta thaan puriyum. 

There are other notable characters as well, almost all of them donned by A list actors, but to me the biggest surprise was Rakesh Bedi. He was always rolly polly and gulab jamun shaped comic who has been given a cut throat politician's role and he has aced it. Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal laam alavu eduthu theicha pola irukanga!!! Kurta theikavay rendu padam budget aagirukum pola, rivalled only by hair cair budget of Ranveer. No wonder the lady lead fell in love with him. If he takes so much care of his hair and slightly out of envy as well that he has more lengthy and dense one than her!!! Indha angle la konjam yosichirukalam!! But again padam poora blood and bomb ngarapo kashtam thaan.

Apparantly the movie has a second part. First partay runs for almost 200+minutes that too with cuts for OTT version!! And looks like they made both the parts together and mothama 7 hour show poatta oru naaliku rendu show kooda therathungarathukagavachum they might've gone for this approach i the think. For all the propaganda anda gunda cry all over, i felt those who might've seen few episodes of Homeland series, would've felt this is child's play when compared to that. Credit to stunt men and action choreographers who have been literally the backbone of the movie. Screenplay wise, despite running for so long, it never drags. Serthu vachu second partla seiya poranga nenakren.
