Resident alien - review

Resident alien is a new drama series launched in Netflix. It begins as yet another sci-fi series where aliens crash land on earth and except for that part, they have tried to go against every other situation that are previously seen in any series or stories involving extra terrestrials. This alien, takes the shape/structure/body of a human whom it kills by accident. The mission of that alien is to destroy all human kind on earth and when i crash landed on earth, it looses track of its ship and also the killer device. While searching for that device, it tries to adapt itself to the town where it crash landed, as the town's doctor. What follows is several quirky situations that it somehow manages to escape. Even though it has taken human form, there is a kid whose mutative power makes him see the alien in its true form. Initially, the kid and the alien are at loggerheads with the alien trying to "eliminate" the kid in several inventive ways. Eventually they form an alliance of mutual benefit. Like this, there are several situations where the alien behaves differently from how typically they are represented in other stories, but eventually, this alien also falls in line and becomes more "human". In the end, when its cover is blown, it tries to fulfill its mission by starting the killer device, only to have a change of heart and saves everyone. Obviously there is an army team, who operate in shadows on their own, unknown to their superiors, bent on getting the alien before it completes its mission. None of the main characters are completely good or completely bad with overlapping characterization that makes them take stand basis the situation.

The best part of the whole series is the casting. The guy who plays ET is so quirky and weird that, if he behaves such in real world, anyone would suspect. With minimal mannerisms and movements he portrays a person who is trying his best to portray a human but struggles to do so. It is as if you are wearing a tightly worn dress which is suffocatingly ill stitched. His responses to simple human interactions are laugh out loud funny. Next up is the kid who can see the alien. Possibly another boy wonder star in the making. He is very cute and so is that girl who plays a muslim schoolmate of the boy. She is matching cute and mature as well. Of the remaining cast members, the lady who plays Darcy is quite believable and nice for an otherwise supporting cast of a character. Sadly, they've only one season of this series and the second season is missing. I wish they release the second one soon. Would recommend this light hearted series for anyone who likes quirky characters. I loved the initial sections where the name credits roll, with each one depicting the right and wrong ways to handle humans as a pictograph for the alien, in a really funny manner.

Very strange story line.

Why are you watching this series, instead of clearing the backlog of Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam movies yet to be reviewed by the ace reviewer ?

Enna koduma saaar ithu!!!!

We are a group of 5 who share our apartment. Usually me and one more guy are the last to the leave the house everyday morning. Yesterday, the one who used to leave first for office, didnt come home till 11. I went to sleep after the usual book reading session at around 11.30. When i woke up i saw it was only me who was still lying on the mat while even the guy who leaves for office along with me, had already started folding his bed!! I was feeling very tired and sleepy and was in two minds whether i should take off or go late. Still managed to crawl..brushed teeth half sleeping and swtiched on the geyser. I turned back to see, suddenly it was pitch dark outside the bathroom!! Since the light was On inside, it wasnt power cut and i came out to see what was wrong. The guy who folded his bed, had moved to the hall and was again asleep!! Then only i noticed, it was dark outside the balcony too!!! I checked the time. It was 3AM!!! BOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! SOB SOB SOB!!! That useless guy afterwards ...

Rudhra Veenai

Took binge watching to a whole new level and completed Rudhra Veenai series in a week's time :) The best part of the lot being, i didnt see the last episode to know the ending, despite the craving urge right from midway onto the series. Yay to that :)  The story by Indira Soundrarajan, made into drama series by Radaan have been on my radar for few years now and thanks to my blog mate and good friend Brags, managed to get hold of the series. For long my complaint against tamil series is that they are in no league to match the thrill element of the english drama series. There are some handful of good comedy series like Flight 171, Ramany vs Ramany but none to match a good suspense thriller till i stumbled on the Marmadesam series. Read in some survey that they've been voted as the best ever tamil series of the 90's. Not sure on the authenticity, but they would definitely worth any such accolades. Marmadesam series where way too ahead of their time for any drama series is my...
