Ennaya nadakuthu inga!!!

RCB pona varusham cup win panapo saw a meme that said, innum paaru adutha varusham Vijay CM aagi TVK ruling party aagi oru shock kudupaanga paarunu. This day that memory nu Facebook reminded of that post. Oru one month gap la ennalaam nadanthu poachu!! Weekend was watching Pokiri on some channel and then only the realization struck that the guy on screen is the current CM!! Probably something similar my dad and his generation would've went through watching MGR becoming the CM 5 decades back. Nothing wrong or right in anyone from movie industry or any industry becoming a democractically elected ruling party and the CM, but TN some how has this penchant for picking its leader only from the entertainment space!! For a state that has shunned national parties continuously since last 6 decades, picking a new party outside of the 1 A 2D 2M and 2 K combination is in itself quite something. But the way in which they've went about electing their representatives is a case study in itself for future MBA batches!! 90% of the elected reps from the current government where virtual unknowns till the results were announced and them declared winners. I can bet a decent wager that almost 99% of the electorate will not know the name of their rep by name or face. Not that i was aware of who the previous one was from the age old parties taking turns to rule TN. But this one still feels way weirder, mainly because of the amount of focus given to this aspect of the election that just got over. There was once a topic on a talk show that was a discussion on how well we know our civic duties and our representatives. It was a serious topic. But this current situation is troll and meme material at best!! But that is the best part of democrazy right (google may call it a typo but that should've been the actual spelling!!) anyone can become a representative - not ruler!! The day this difference sinks in i think no one in their real sense will ever want to contest leave alone win. The role is to represent the problems of the group of people who elected that person to "represent" their issues on their behalf and get them resolved. Rather it is being considered as a "king" who has "won" the battle and defeated oppositions to "rule" over them!! Politics is not a dirty thing but down right difficult and most tiresome and tedious work if done in the true sense. But kudos to our society for having churned Poison from Amrit!! RCB has won the cup again this year and the 1A 2D 2M and 2K's have infact discussed about forming a coalition to stop the current ruling party means only one thing - anything is possible.

Comment from Thala - Tamil Nadu lives perpetually in a star struck haze. They equate a film star with a real life hero - hence the penchant for electing all sorts of film types. Most of India is film crazy, but no other state does this.

Although India is ostensibly a parliamentary democracy, in reality we vote for "Presidents", a modern day euphemism for king. Hence we vote for Modi, or Indira Gandhi, or Nehru, or MGR, or whoever. The actual candidate doesn't matter. The sight of a candidate sporting a stupid smile and standing in one corner with folded hands, while the leader pontificates at an election rally is most cringe worthy.

I am not in your Dad's generation, but even I watched MGR all those years ago - in screen and in politics. In my defence, I will claim that it was because MGR films had such great immortal songs !

By the way the connection between RCB and Vijay escapes me. Perhaps it is as obscure as Assault Arvind's thaththuvams !

Lol...they were betting big against RCB winning last year and defending it this year as similar to vijay walking in as CM at very first attempt. Both happened!! Bookies must've been in bookie h(e)aven
