Kantara - chapter 1
When every one were going gaga over the first part, i felt it would be more like art movie, considering the trailer and the snippets i saw. More of a malayalam movie in kannada. But when the second part came in to high praise from everyone, was more curious to watch and started off with the sequel and boy was i impressed!
Rishabh shetty - yaar saar neenga!! Enna oru performance!! In this age of violence driven movie where the more modern the gun and more gruesome the mode of kill, the only variety that people can think of as a story line, he goes on to make a movie, that has interesting twists naturally ingrown and considering the strong mythical background, makes for a fantastic movie watching experience. The locations, that are so rich in greenery, wonder where he found such place or was it all CG? with so much of fire and burn happening across the movie, wonder if it faced any challenge from environmentalists!! But that apart, was totally smitten by his performance and especially towards the climax when he turns into Arthanariswara mode to kill the queen was literal goosebump moments!! Wonder if there are any other actor in current generation who can match up to his energy and performance. Surya that Kanguva would be his hat tip to Kantara but it became more of a somersault into oblivion kind of a movie. We might've seen movies made by AP Nagarajan and folks, who dished out one mythological blockbuster after another supported by rich sets and stellar casts, guess if something of that kind has to be made in current times, Kantara would be the bench mark.
Rukmini vasanth who plays the queen is a master stroke of a character, though she hardly has enough to do but to look good on screen. Her character shines though and serves as a good counter to Berme played by Rishabh. Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah are adequate in their roles. Comedy was quite decent all throughout and stunts were superb as well. Above everything the performances as the deity - a little more or little less, it would've ended up as caricature or strong fodder for memes. Instead it literally sells the idea of the movie and raises goosebumps everytime it apepars on screen. Must've been a fantastic experience to watch on theaters. Eagerly awaiting the next part and hope they dont screw it up. The expectations would be sky high for sure!
