Killing moon by Jo Nesbo
The latest installment of the Harry Hole series by Nesbo is by far one of the biggest as well. There are few authors whom I keep a tab on as they quite regularly churn out new books. The list includes Keigo Higashino, James Rollins, Matthew Reilley, Peter Swanson and Jo Nesbo. Of this lot, Matt Reilley, having completed his Jack West Jr. series, is on a silent mode. I’ve read almost all the English translated works of Keigo and haven’t come across any new book for a long while now. Nesbo took almost 2 years to produce this book since his last one (Knife) on Harry hole series. Peter Swanson and Rollins are in factory mode with at least one book every 12 months. I am big fan of the sigma series of Rollins and possibly the next post would be on the latest installment.
Coming back to Killing moon, it has all the ingredients of a typical Harry hole thriller. To quote the producer of Varisu movie – Gruesome murders irukka – irukku. Physical abuse irukka – irukku. Harry sleeping with his associates irukka – irukku. Alcoholic Harry deciding to give up his Jim Beam bingeing irukka – irukku. Drug abuse related scenes irukka – irukku. Ipdi it has all the ingredients that have made Harry hole series into a success formula. For those who are new to the series, that is almost a dozen book long and counting, they may find it difficult to relate to some of the incidents from previous editions. The burgeoning volume is to compensate for the same. But it does make it a tiresome read. This book is one of the most slow moving and boring of the whole lot and competes with few other in the series for the boring crown. There are some hints as to where the series is heading in this book, with Harry slipping not once or twice but thrice in identifying the right criminal. And Norway la Harry sonna arrest thaan pola. Avanga paatuku arrest panranga and justifying the arrest for a different crime. Finala the twist related to the villain being some one close to the group is also a common feature that is continued in this edition as well.
When I started the series, I used to get startled by the content and the darkness of the subject. Ipolam, intha oorkaranunga ellarumay ipidthaanpa nu mind has got conditioned!! If that is what Nesbo wanted to achieve, he has attained crowning success! Mathabadi, mokka book.
