Kind worth saving by Peter swanson – book review

For long, Hrithik Roshan was called as “One hit wonder”. When his second hit came after a while, the calling increased the count to two. It took a while for him to establish himself as a good actor, even though many of his movies flopped. Peter Swanson could very well be the Hrithik of thriller genre. His initial 3 books were super duper hits with so many twists and surprises that set the bar very high unfortunately for his own good. His next couple of books were so dumb and dull that, every time a new book got launched, it was received with a dread of which side of the creative bed it might’ve been from. When I saw the title “Kind worth Saving” it became quite clear that this is a sequel to the superhit “Kind worth killing”. To be honest I was expecting a more spiritual sequel with an overlapping character thrown in for the thrill. But this book being an almost literal reprint of the former, feels like a joke retold. The same setup where two people discuss as casually as a weekend plan to kill someone, that murder happening with clockwork precision, that it remains hidden in plain sight as an accident for a long while only for a nosy detective with bare minimal skills to identify it easily. The result being the dumb detective will either get killed or pushed to the brink, only for him to make a surprise recovery in the end. The previous book “Kind worth killing” was chillingly original and in fact cruelly devious at times, when the characters were plotting the murder of their spouses which made those twists remarkably unique. Just re-labelling the characters and calling for the same setup under a different title makes it blander than a coffee gone cold. At least for what it’s worth, the climax could’ve still salvaged some end point glory. Idhukkada ivlo buildup kind of climax was a bitter let down. At this rate, Peter Swanson may soon not belong to the authors whose kind is worth saving!!!

Wow. Brutal review. Mr Swanson must go into retirement.

I have never read any of his books. Any recommendation for the first try ? Kind worth killing is good ?

It's diabolical. Kind worth killing, girl with clock for a heart and her every fear. I like all three.
