Of feedbacks and comments

The thing with junior is everything would be on your face, be it comment or criticism or his feedback. No holdbacks and take no prisoners is always his response.

Be it food or toy or his dress or anything else that is related to him, his response will always be direct and no beating around. Intha poosi mozhugarathu..maane thene additions..uhumm.

Payapulla ipidiye continue aavaanaa nu theriyathu but most of the times the resulting situations are downright funny.

During one of his online classes, his class teacher was showing how to draw a lion. She herself had made it clear prior that her drawing skills are slightly passable and the objective of that activity was to improve fine motor skills on kids, ensuring they get proper grip while writing.

The lion she had drawn was around the “palm impression” where in she had made up the fingers as mane and somehow made a body of the actual palm. It was not immediately recognizable as a lion but if someone explains it, can understand kind of a diagram.

Junior and other kids were asked to draw the similar version on their slates and towards the end of the class the teacher was reviewing each of their creations. When his turn came, junior showed the lion on camera and said “Kandraavia iruku”.

For a moment the teacher was stunned whether it was a comment on hers or his.

She asked “dai..who said that”

Mr.Harichandran immediately staked the claim “Naan than miss…ennoda lion nallavay illa”

I was actually a bit relieved that it was a self-critical comment and not about the teachers!!

The teacher didn’t knew how to react and said “Nalla thaanda iruku..practice pannu..it will come better”

Junior made a “uvva” vomiting kind of an act and said “illa kandraavia than iruku..not looking nice”

Some of the parents and both the teachers on the call started laughing and all of us on this side of the camera couldn’t control laughter.

It reminded me of an incident when I was in first or second standard. The school where I studied it was not very hi-fi and there was one ceiling fan hanging from an asbestos sheet, covering a class of over 50 kids. The Head mistress had came to the class that day and it was quite a sultry day. I don’t remember the context of her visit, but she was mentioning that there were several windows and it will be quite breezy. Mind voice nu nenachu I spoke out loud that “kaathu enga varuthu..veyil than adikuthu”. A note about that HM lady. She had a built like Hulk Hogan and a voice that would travel without transmission stations across several cities. Even the class teachers used to be afraid of her and if for any punishment a kid is being sent to her room, that was like highest level of scare that a kid can experience on his lifetime in school. What made me say that loud I never realized and with class being pin-drop silence, my usually squeaky voice was loud and clear!! Rani miss, my maths teacher had a shock look on her face, “enda nee vera ezharaya kootra…intha maasam innum sambalam podala” was clearly written. The HM turned around to see who was that veera voice and laughed looking at my laughing buddha crossed with golu bommai chettaiyar of a built and said “naamellaam oola sadhai (obese bodies)..namakkulam apdi than verkkum” and she went away.

Oru siladhulam heriditaraya varathaan seiyumm pola!!!

This is the beauty of children - they are brutally honest. Its our upbringing and education that makes them hide their emotions, be diplomatic etc etc. Not a bad thing though - if everybody were as brutally honest as children, we wouldn't last one minute !

By the way, what are you doing attending online kindergarten classes ?? I thought you were a little more grown up :):):)

You have established strength in the mouth of babes and infants (Bible). Certainly!

Coming to think of it, if only all of us had this simple acceptance, how beautiful would the world be! Such a lovely child!
