Thadam - movie review

After a long time, a decent thriller movie in Tamil. Right from the time, the teaser trailer was released, the movie piqued interest. It was a really long trailer at that, running close to 4 mins. The hero meet heroine on a crowded lift. They work on the same building, different floors. He asks her out for coffee which she declines stating that he is asking the wrong question. His brilliant response being that, she may be a feminist and he doesn’t mind her taking him out for coffee either. She again rejects with same reason. He wonders out loud, probably she believes in equality and rephrases his invite as, let both of them go together for coffee, which she smilingly refuses saying the question itself was wrong. And if he asks the right question, she would consider. It is not just the hero, but any viewer would be tempted to think, what the hell is wrong with the question. Was it grammatical or any other logic around the same. He finally breaks the puzzle and asks her out for tea. By that time, she gathers all the detail about the hero and they quickly fall in love with each other. It is one of the breeziest romantic scenes and felt right out of a novel. Also, the way the hero explain the concept of cantilever principle is tongue-in-cheek and oozes of Sujatha’s influence. Right at the beginning itself, its established that it’s a dual role story. Whether they are related and how so are unraveled in a novel way. The entire theme, screenplay and premise about the story, has a very strong influence and probably bases its strength on a strong script. It feels like watching a good thriller book on screen.
Though there are logical loopholes, the story revolves around investigation procedure of the police and how, despite knowing that, one of the two is a murderer, without proper evidence, there can be no conviction. Stories with perfect crime scenarios are very rare in Tamil and very rarely they are interestingly told and enacted as well. Arun vijay, the dual role hero, is on a upward swing with his movie selections. Both the heroines are eye candies and lip locks and live-in’s have almost become a norm in movies nowadays. The story revolves around a murder investigation where one of the duo is the murderer. Who did it and why are revealed towards the end in a very interesting manner. The lady who is the police investigator, almost has the role of a third heroine and all of them have done their job admirably well. Except for the flashback portions, which were a real letdown, the rest of the story line is really pacy and keeps the viewers glued.

Gils verdict – Sure watch and treat for thriller movie lovers.

Really Gilsu - they make movies on which asking out to tea is the preferred option to asking out for coffee ??? Really !!

And seriously - where does cantilever principle come in all this. My head whirls.

And WHO is the "eye candy". I know that the good lady has forbidden you from ogling at heroines, but I will petition her to let you express an opinion on the matter purely for the sake of ignorant readers such as I :)

I think I have to watch this movie! Netflix la irukka ??

Enna koduma saaar ithu!!!!

We are a group of 5 who share our apartment. Usually me and one more guy are the last to the leave the house everyday morning. Yesterday, the one who used to leave first for office, didnt come home till 11. I went to sleep after the usual book reading session at around 11.30. When i woke up i saw it was only me who was still lying on the mat while even the guy who leaves for office along with me, had already started folding his bed!! I was feeling very tired and sleepy and was in two minds whether i should take off or go late. Still managed to crawl..brushed teeth half sleeping and swtiched on the geyser. I turned back to see, suddenly it was pitch dark outside the bathroom!! Since the light was On inside, it wasnt power cut and i came out to see what was wrong. The guy who folded his bed, had moved to the hall and was again asleep!! Then only i noticed, it was dark outside the balcony too!!! I checked the time. It was 3AM!!! BOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! SOB SOB SOB!!! That useless guy afterwards ...

Dasvidaniya - Best goodbye ever

What makes a movie tick?? If anyone has a sureshot answer to this question every movie getting released would be a Superhit isnt it. To me whether a movie goes on to become a hit or not..if you are able to relate to it..that itself is a victory for that creator. Dasvidaniya is one such movie. It got released quite sometime back and sank without a trace for obvious reasons. Happened to watch it today and here is the review :) This movie maynot be everybody's cup of tea considering that it moves at a slow pace and doesnt have feet tapping melodies or any peppy songs. Nor does it have slap stick comedy scenes which might draw repeat audience. This is one movie best watched in DVD..at your own leisure..just soaking in its pace and relishing just the same. If its Nasseruddin shah with Vaswani 3 decades back..Vinay Pathak and Ranbir Shourie are no less a pair to match wits with them. Add in the ever dependable Rajat Kapoor you've a formidable cast. Throw in a decent script and lo..yo...
